2023: Year in review

Last year was a big one in a lot of ways! Now that we’re settling into 2024, we’d love to share a recap of highlights from 2023—everything from new Cliniko features, company events, clinic case studies, and more.

2023 was an eventful time! We had our first international team meetup in over five years (a much-needed team bonding experience). Some really exciting new features were released, and we were able to attend some great conferences. We also hosted our third Cliniko Community meetup, and it was so fun to catch up with those of you we’ve met before, as well as meet some new faces!

Recapping the highlights is always fun, so let’s take a peek at some of our favourite things to happen at Cliniko last year.

New features

  • Major updates were made to online payments! Now, in addition to accepting online payments via online bookings, you can request online payments directly from Cliniko via email, SMS, and QR code. Patients are able to pay via a secure link, and the payment is automatically reconciled with the related invoice. This saves a lot of time and is super handy if you want to automate payments a little more!
  • Advanced time zone support was introduced for clinics that service multiple time zones. This allows you to work with your colleagues based anywhere in the world, and offer appointments to your patients—no matter where they are—at times that suit everyone.
  • The ability for practitioners to add their digital signatures to letters means that the days of having to print out and physically sign a letter are gone! Your practitioner signature can be easily set up and automatically added directly in Cliniko.
  • The default sex options for patients were updated to be in line with current terminology and ensure inclusivity and accuracy.
  • If an appointment is cancelled by mistake, you now have the ability to uncancel it from within Cliniko, instead of having to create a brand new one.

Practice management tips

  • ChatGPT and AI software is everywhere, but it’s not the place to put sensitive patient data. This post covers the nitty-gritty details about AI, privacy, and what not to do if you plan on using AI software as part of your practice management.
  • Is free software really free? We explore the potential hidden costs of free products and the importance of making informed decisions, especially when it comes to any software you use in your practice.
  • Do you take bookings over the phone? It may be worth turning the ringer off and offering online bookings instead. There are some very compelling advantages to using online bookings versus handling phone calls (convenience being one of them!).
  • Unsure of what to do when it comes to communicating with your patients through newsletters or blog posts? We have some handy tips for good writing in your allied health practice that are worth a read!

Company culture

  • We were very fortunate to have our third international team meetup last year (though it was the first international meetup for many of our team members who joined Cliniko when the world was on lockdown). We went to Phuket, Thailand, and it was amazing to be able to catch up in person in such a beautiful part of the world.
  • Strong values and ethics are core to how Cliniko is run, and we always aim to be transparent. Here's some background on our company ethos—including why we donate 2% of all customer subscriptions fees to charity, why work-life balance matters so much, and how we’ve ensured that Cliniko is an ethical product.
  • Inclusivity is another thing that’s very important to us, and we will always stand proudly behind the LGBTQIA+ community.
  • Employee KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) are something that we’ve never had at Cliniko. We don’t believe that this metric tells us how well our team is performing, and here’s why.
  • As cliché as it sounds, we believe that being yourself at work is one of the keys to success. By encouraging and allowing our team to be authentic in the workplace, we aim to foster a culture of openness, trust, and diversity.
  • What is bonus leave, and why do we do it? We believe that offering team members the opportunity to take an extended break from work has numerous benefits, both for them and the company.

In conclusion

Thank you so much for your support last year. We can’t wait to see what’s in store for 2024 and we hope you’re having a great start to the new year!
